Triax 4 Post System Timelapse

Shade Smart required a video to showcase their brand new product, Triax 4 Post System, about to hit the market. The Triax 4 Post System is brilliant, allowing installers to construct large shelters in a matter of hours, instead of days; this is primarily due to their patent-pending invention requiring no welding. This revolutionary system’s debut was at SuperExpo2023 on the Gold Coast.

Shade Smart approached us for a one camera, simple shoot of the Triax System in action; instead, James and Wes rocked up with seven cameras and one analogue clock.  This is a classic example of REDfusion being happy to do what the client asks but even happier to go above and beyond to produce videos with greater impact.

Timelapse with a single angle is standard but opening it up to multiple angles enables content that is much more engaging and detailed and allows for true storytelling methods to be implemented.  In addition to multi-angle timelapse, we used two cinema cameras to capture additional standard footage intended for Shade Smart’s use in the future, however, this ended up being cut into our main timelapse piece, creating incredibly detailed sequences.

From our multi-camera footage, we created a series of media, including the single camera timelapse to observe the construction uninterrupted (the original brief) and the detailed cinema edit comprised of multi-angle timelapses plus the cinema cameras’ sequences. One of the other videos produced was novel – an additional timelapse created by a camera strategically positioned on the floor, with an analogue clock in the foreground, proving the construction time claim was legitimate.

We are honoured to play a part in promoting such a fantastic Australian designed and manufactured product.

Odyssey Group Sea Trial

Odyssey Group is a maritime logistics provider, operating out of Geelong and Port Hedland ports, and they wanted to document the sea trials of the first of their two new line boats built by Impact Boats. With a drone as our eyes in the sky, REDfusion was delighted to spend a day on the high seas, capturing the boat’s extraordinary performance. The voyage started at Patterson Lakes Marina, taking us across the bay to Geelong and back again.

James hunkered down in the boat’s bow, bracing himself in order to maintain absolute control of the drone, with the added advantage of somewhat mitigating the wintry chill. The Odyssey team was lovely to work with! The guys from Western Australia were not accustomed to Melbourne’s somewhat Antarctic temperatures but constantly put on brave, smiling faces (or were they just frozen in place?), showing the stern stuff they’re made of. Nautical pun intended.

Once safely out of the restricted area, the line boat roared to life and cut through the water, leaving a mass of foaming white in its wake. The drone, with its bird’s eye view, captured the boat’s every move and gave us a perspective few get to experience of an oftentimes breathtaking vista.

Filming from above presented its own set of challenges. To prevent the drone from plummeting into the watery depths, it was essential for it to not come in contact with the seaspray the boat generated. Keeping the horizon straight necessitates concentration and a nimble touch on the controls. Then there was the matter of battery life; with each minute of flight, the drone’s energy reserves dwindled, forcing James to keep a keen eye on the situation.

The day’s most daunting task was piloting the drone from the boat whilst it hung doughnuts around a tugboat that was actively spraying high pressure water. It made for absolutely spectacular footage though and was heaps of fun!!

We were surprised by dolphins performing their aquatic ballet in perfect synchronicity not too far from our starboard. With a sky etched in shades of blue, white, orange and pink, the dolphins become the stars of a beautiful masterpiece of nature.

At the close of this exhilarating  adventure, we knew that not only had brilliant footage been captured but that we’d had a hand in writing the first chapter in the story of this boat, destined for Port Hedland in September.

It was a day of high hopes, filming challenges and a healthy dose of adrenaline!

Andy Layfield & the Sound

Producing video of musicians, both in the recording studio and performing live, is always a great undertaking for REDfusion Studios. Capturing artists’ energy, passion and talent is a privilege and we hold them in high esteem for their commitment to their craft. We produced four videos for Andy Layfield; the main one was filmed in a recording studio with a few snippets at a live gig, with Andy providing  commentary, with a further three clips produced for social media.

Andy’s story began in Melbourne at the age of 16 when he first picked up a guitar. A lifelong passion for music was sparked by the magic of expressing emotions through improvisation. He found inspiration in the works of Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young and other 60’s musicians; this influence is evident in Andy’s ability to weave unexpected twists and turns into his music, taking it beyond the traditional 12-bar blues format.

Andy says that songs are started with him noodling on his guitar, finding a groove; the emotion of the groove dictates the story. Andy’s lyrics are shaped by life experiences, people and blues in the modern world, and he connects with audiences on a deep level, taking them on a journey with him. Blues rhythms, soulful vocals, incredible riffs and harmonica, coupled with undertones of funk and rock make for a distinctly individual style.

Filming Andy Layfield laying down tracks in Soggy Dog Recording Studio was an incredible opportunity. Backed by a talented group of musicians, Andy brings his vision to life; creating a sound that is unique and exciting. Andy encourages his co-musicians to have creative input and to put their producer hats on, believing that the best sound is created with this collaborative approach.

In the studio, lead vocals and guitar lay the foundation of the recording, built upon with rhythm (drums, bass and keyboard), spot performances by back up vocals and saxophone, with additional guitar and harmonica adding layers of depth. Finally, the recording is expertly sound engineered and produced.

Andy Layfield ‘& the Sound’ are a compelling presence on stage with their very cool hats and stylish gear, and they have an absolute blast performing together. The four piece band – bass, drums, keyboard and guitar – adapt Andy’s recorded songs so they not only work in live gigs but are masterpieces in their own rights. Filming this band engaging their captivated audience with their undeniable passion and talent for the blues was such a hoot!

The Middle of Everywhere TVC Campaign

Wellington Shire in south-eastern Victoria, AKA Gippsland, encompasses 10,817 square kilometres of spectacular vistas and is just a stone’s throw (2.5 hours) from Melbourne. The Shire boasts a uniquely diverse region from the sands of 90 Mile Beach, northwards into the High Country.

What’s to be found in ‘The Middle of Everywhere’? Pretty much everything – pristine beaches of turquoise water and golden sand, lofty mountains dusted with snow in Winter,  rushing rivers and gurgling creeks edged with soft green fern fronds and majestic towering gums, grapevines heavily laden with the promise of delights to come and fine dining experiences to satisfy the most exacting gourmet.

Filming a small portion of the picturesque ‘The Middle of Everywhere’ (what an absolutely perfect description) for the montage commercial was thoroughly enjoyable, as was working alongside the Shire folk (not Hobbits, sorry). The mere term ‘The Middle of Everywhere’ evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity.

We’re absolutely rapt with the montage and excited to have it shared far and wide.

Our collaboration with Wellington Shire continued and we had a grand ol’ time writing a script, casting, filming, directing and editing ‘Guess the Holiday’. Our two local actresses jumped right into their roles and encapsulated their characters’ personalities to a T.

What you may not realise watching the commercial is that the ‘office’ in which we filmed was, in reality, a conference room that we shanghaied and converted for our purposes into an office. Lighting issues posed a challenge but were vanquished by our professional gaffer team, along with a vast array of additional lighting equipment.  To create a realistic film set involves a lot of assessing, planning, problem-solving and, oftentimes, last minute tweaking but it’s so rewarding when everything comes together.

We’re really proud of the ‘Guess the Holiday’ commercial produced by REDfusion – we hope you are inspired to experience ‘The Middle of Everywhere’.

Our double feature of ‘Guess the Holiday’ and the montage are below … get the popcorn ready!

GMG Auto Social Media Content Calendar

In this image campaign we emphasised the strong and powerful imagery of workshop and muscle cars. When it came to determining content, it was decided to have a strong leaning towards an educational component, with an over-arching theme of ‘fun in the workshop’.

We also wanted to incorporate client feedback into the campaign, which we achieved by producing both video and photo testimonials for another component in this campaign. See the GMG Customer Testimonials we produced.

The educational content certainly triggers your brain, if you’re not on top of your car maintenance. READERS BEWARE: If you continue scrolling down the page, you might find yourself contacting Gav and his team to make a booking!

Patties Foods Journey

They say never work with kids or animals; but what do they know? Patties are known for their Party Pies, so we just had to film genuine reactions from kids; afterall, they are the main consumers of pies and sausage rolls. Once the shots we needed were in the can, and the cameras were packed away, like ravenous animals, our crew tucked into the delicious leftovers!

This is a lovely film, that includes:  a tour through the Patties factory in Bairnsdale, Victoria; drone shots we captured in some nearby farmland, celebrating the connection to the land where Patties’ journey began; some fun little scenes we orchestrated, showing Patties’ products being consumed by ideal clientele, such as brunch in the living room, the kids at a birthday party and a Saturday gathering of mates watching the footy.

Interviews led by Denis Gerrard and Greg Wharton offering behind the scenes details, together with our professional voice-over artist enlightening us with historical factoids of how Patties came about, make this film another great all-rounder and an exciting watch for anyone.

Patties Foods was going through large growth at the time of filming this campaign and part of that was the new stake-hold they had just made in Australian Whole Foods. They celebrated this achievement by including a chapter in this film, dedicated to featuring the additional capabilities that joining forces offers them in the marketplace.

SCT Logistics’ Inaugural Queensland Train Journey

Construction of the new SCT Logistics freight train terminal in Bromelton was completed; the terminal connected and expanded SCT’s already extensive Australian network into Queensland, with increased accessibility to their trucking network. Now to record the maiden journey!

REDfusion accompanied SCT on the first Victoria to Queensland train journey to tell their story and share in the excitement of this incredible milestone in the Company’s history. This journey started at SCT’s Melbourne headquarters; the train was being loaded with cargo from many newly onboarded clients taking full advantage of the direct service now offered.

We recorded a variety of interviews with staff involved in the journey; starting with the first train driver, followed by staff in charge of the loading in Victoria and subsequent unloading in Queensland, along with many other key stakeholders throughout the journey.

Our initial plan for the filming was to position ourselves in the train’s staff cabin, but later determined the importance of capturing footage of the train departing Melbourne and arriving in Bromelton. Thanks to the advancement in jet-plane technology, we managed to overtake the train after filming its departure,  to prepare our cameras on-site for the train’s 3am arrival. The logistics on-site were difficult, to say the least, but not insurmountable with some fast leg work employed! The unexpected site size of roughly 3km became all too apparent when I went to ‘run’ to the other end with our drone, while we left camera gear set up, ready for the train’s inaugural arrival.

What a privilege to be a part of a client’s great adventure and making history.

In the six months leading up to this Corporate Documentary Film, we also filmed a short series in more formal settings, explaining SCT’s business model in general and how it has all led towards the move towards Expansion into Queensland.

Kicking back in the Dojo for a day with the Team Taekwondo crew, with our camera kit down in Coburg, Melbourne.

What stood out to us was how disciplined the team of students was to continue their formation training in the background, as Murat worked through our interview questions, under relatively high pressure, we must say too!

A nice little addition to this piece was the inclusion of a testimonial from one of the “Team’s” students, and hearing about her increased confidence and accelerated development in life, as a result of her training.

GippsPest: Meet Our Team

A batcave isn’t the base of operations for GippsPest; nor do their superheroes wear capes and lycra (on the job). Their modes of transportation are not gravity-defying, ocean-going and faster than a speeding bullet, nor capable of invisibility at the flick of a switch. They’re just that awesome without the stereotype hype and most definitely not your run-of-the-mill superheroes!

However, our vermin and creepy critter annihilators do exhibit, perhaps subconsciously, an affinity to other screen champions – a morph between Ghostbusters and The Terminator, with a chainsaw thrown in for good measure!

REDfusion’s brief was to produce a 3 – 5 minute ‘Meet Our Team’ video to introduce their amazing staff and inspire others to join their energetic team. It leaked out that the team of bug bashers’ expectation was that the film would be a little dry but with their personalities and quirky (slightly dark) senses of humour shining through, the final product was fun and most definitely engaging.

Film production involves far more than shooting a camera in the right direction and letting the magic happen, or not! It is definitely not a sequence of random events that are then edited to form some form of intelligible, coherent content. Each and every sequence has a beginning, middle and end – much like a book – both are telling a particular story and require thought, planning and creativity.

GippsPest’s Shannon had two requirements: that the video not be boring and dry (lame), and that it outshine those of the competitors. We collaboratively came up with a creative concept to feature each staff member in a fun, epic and bit of a heroic light. REDfusion’s James and Chris brainstormed and we walked onto set ready to create an engaging sequence based around some of the tools of trade to really highlight the diversity of both the pest industry’s operations and GippsPest team.

We love subtleties, so watch out for a recurring Halloween theme throughout the ‘Meet the Team’ video and get the popcorn ready for the GippsPest Halloween Bash promo! We’re rapt with the graphic animations featured – creepy crawlies on the screen and, dare we say it, cute rat that jumps up and pulls down the closing screen.

We had an absolutely great time working with the GippsPest team and learning that pest management takes skill, fortitude, bravery and humour.

Who Said That? Variety Show

We have to say that working with CJ’s Puppets is a great gig to land! REDfusion has worked with CJ’s Puppets several times before and each time we’re blown away by the energy, characters, humour, music and, of course, ventriloquism.

Our first encounter at a community event actually involved us being on the receiving end of CJ’s humour; there’s nothing like a tech problem to get the adrenaline pumping in a live performance! If sound delays in mics present when a ventriloquist is at large, we don’t even blink an eye these days, having learnt a very valuable lesson.  A note of caution though to all the budding ventriloquists out there. It would be wise to remember that mics are controlled by the person sitting at  the sound desk and revenge is a likely outcome to messing with their nerves! CJ (who is a great sport) may have learnt a lesson too but probably not!

Out of a suitcase emerged Clive, a hearing-challenged old codger, whose present exacerbated deafness was explained in a visual, hysterical gag. Understandably, Clive isn’t all that enamoured with being transported in a dark place and he isn’t slow in conveying his dissatisfaction with this arrangement.

A blue, Spanish dog! Who would have thought of such a character? Obviously, CJ! Scratch is bilingual, although CJ declares he doesn’t speak Spanish – it just defies logic! Switching between two languages and characters, whilst tunefully singing a song takes incredible skill. Not to mention the ability to not move one’s lips when the puppet persona is at the forefront!

The fortitude and good nature of an audience member were put to the test and won the day in blazing glory. CJ has has a special torture device, umm…ventroliquist prop…whereby he is able to control the strapped on lips of his hapless victim…umm…adoring fan, whilst giving voice to this short-term sidekick. Seriously, you have to see it to believe it!

We are fortunate to have a multi-skilled, versatile crew and took the opportunity to mix things up a little. Jacob emerged from creating impressive motion graphics to take position behind a camera; Glenn, our in-house, in-family tech guru, managed the sound desk; and James put on the director’s cap and also manned a camera. CJ’s musical son, Tom, joined our band of merry film-makers for the evening and did an excellent job in the role of ‘Sound Desk 2IC’.

Enjoy watching the promotional video we produced and good luck in detecting any movement in the puppet master’s lips! CJ really is just that good!!

Chemistry Australia Industry Awards 2023

ELAC (Emerging Leaders Advisory Council) is a two year professional development program established by Chemistry Australia, investing in Australia’s chemistry industry’s future leaders. Our brief was to film interviews with a variety of ELAC participants to screen at the inaugural Chemistry Australia Industry Awards night on 6th April, where achievements of the sector’s ‘best and brightest’ from amongst Chemistry Australia’s diverse range of member organisations are acknowledged.

The chemistry industry doesn’t always get the best rap in the public sphere and this was certainly the elephant in the interview  rooms. It was incredible and eye-opening to have raw, honest conversations about the public perspective and the ELAC participants’ own passion to take action for a better, cleaner, sustainable industry to impact positively upon the world. We tip our hats to the people we met through Chemistry Australia whose focus, priorities and passions are pointed in the right direction, it was an honour to work with them.

Interviews were initially to be conducted solely in the Melbourne area but as happens, the brief rapidly expanded to include an additional three states and REDfusion was definitely up to the challenge!

The big ol’ jet airliners carried us far away to Perth, Brisbane and Sydney and repeatedly back to Melbourne over a whirlwind fortnight of conducting 11 interviews at ten corporations. Getting our copious volume of equipment between vehicles and check in/baggage collection is a challenge not to be attempted by the faint hearted!

Our team has the fantastic advantage of being multi-skilled and this came to the fore with James and Chris being able to share the role of director.  We had the foresight to have cameraman Sam holidaying over in W.A. and so conveniently already on hand for the Perth gig. First class flights for Melbourne-Brisbane were secured at a lower price, so Chris and Greg were able to really enjoy the high life, before travelling cattle class on the return leg.

GippsPest Halloween Carnevil Event

Gippsland Pest Management (GippsPest) pulled out all stops to provide the community with a monster Halloween 2023 evening filled with all manner of spookiness, frights, hilarity and sweet treats. The GippsPest team turned their hands and ingenuity to making incredible enchanted props and donated a frightful amount of energy, time, (fake) blood, sweat and tears to ensure the event was a howling success.

The eerie event’s popularity was evident, with a queue of revellers waiting their turn to have faces painted, be entertained by the GippsPest team in alarming Halloween attire, bounce in the jumping castle, go fishing for prizes, snag a snag, pet a reptile and have a scream of a time!

REDfusion caught the otherworldly action on film and Chris even managed to snatch a cuddle with the youngest party-goer – briefly without a mummy and blissfully chilling through the hocus pocus. Our favourite photographer, Frank Amato, was on hand to snap horrified reactions, ghosts of smiles and costumes of every conceivable design and hue.

The time passed fearfully fast – like an apparition – and the macabre was laid to rest in the GippsPest mausoleum. Hands down (in some cases severed), the GippsPest superheroes can trick or treat with the best of the imps.

The Big Bandalorian

We were transported to a galaxy (not so) far, far away where with an expansive universe of genius, Toshi Clinch Productions’ Not-So-Big Band musical Mandalores performed Star Wars’ futuristic jazz. The Big Bandalorian is the second album by the Not-So-Big Band, featuring the 2021 cohort of students. These incredibly talented musicians didn’t miss a beat and their ability to produce world-class music from behind the coolest of Star Wars’ head attire defies logic.

In 2018, Toshi created the Not-So-Big Band (NSBB), a youth music program based on an apprenticeship model, to assist music students to cross the bridge into the professional music scene. Professional musicians work alongside a set number of students, with the expectation that with just one rehearsal the NSBB performs a new 90 minute show each week at Melbourne’s renowned jazz club, The Paris Cat.

According to Toshi Clinch Productions’ website, as well as augmenting performance skills, members of the NSBB are able to work on a variety of professional skills such as improvisation, jazz arranging/composition, public speaking, band directing, marketing, finance and networking. It really is a fantastic program for aspiring musicians.

It’s taken what has felt like light years to have music videos ready to publish – the COVID dark side really put a spanner in the works – and we’re stoked with the results from this most enjoyable collaborative experience. To this Not-So-Big Band, we say, “Yoda best!”

So, sit back, crack a Corellian ale and enjoy the toe-tapping music from the Earth-bound Star Wars’ Cantina.

Bald Hills Wind Turbine Installation

Timelapse can be a powerful storytelling tool for short-term or even a single day project, such as the wind turbine installation we filmed at Gippsland’s Bald Hills Wind Farm.

The two films we created, as part of this project, showcase how a single camera, wide angle, can capture an entire construction process, and how by carefully repositioning a second camera’s location for multiple angles, results in deeper detail and interest in the installation.

We absolutely love not only the technical aspects of our cameras but the fascinating technical nature of a job, such as the turbine installation.

Timelapse may prove to be a perfect fit in showcasing your next construction venture, so don’t let too much time lapse before speaking with us!

The Vines on Avon

As we approached The Vines on Avon, Common Brown Butterflies in their 1000s gave us an unexpected but delightful welcome. Where the kaleidoscope (sounds prettier than ‘rabble’ or ‘swarm’) of winged inhabitants were intent on fluttering to is anyone’s guess. It was an inspiring  start to a terrific afternoon of filming for Wellington Shire’s ‘Middle of Everywhere’ advertising campaign.

Situated near Maffra in Gippsland, The Vines on Avon sits amid beautiful sweeping lawns and gardens that beckon one to venture further into the vineyard and onward to the enticing Gippsland landscape of vivid greens and blues, and mellow golds.

The Vine’s Tammy was a wonderful hostess, happily helping accommodate all our filming requests – furniture was moved, displays fiddled with and spaces filled with lights, cameras, tech equipment, crew and local film stars in the making. There was a lot of laughter and good humoured banter, making for a relaxed environment for shooting the TV commercial.

The Vines’ skilled chef whipped up a delicious meal and before finishing packing the mountain of equipment away, we snuck into his kitchen to capture a genius at work.  Tucking into the divine roast and perfect pink prawns was a fairytale ending to a long but hugely successful day of filming.

Maybe we will find ourselves at The Vines on Avon sometime in winter, warming our toes in front of a blazing open fire whilst sampling more of the gastronomical delights The Vines has to offer. Now, that’s a tempting thought!!

Baw Baw Shire Community Grants Program

Filming seven interviews and B-roll at seven locations necessitated a rapid pace, requiring James and Sam to divide their efforts to capture the necessary content within the allotted time-frame. However, the challenging logistics were undeniably worthwhile! We caught some amazing examples of how the Baw Baw Shire Community Grants Program is making a real difference within the community, by supporting  the delivery of community programs, events, projects, environmental initiatives and the purchase of equipment.

Throughout the interviews, a consistent theme emerged: the Baw Baw Shire Community Grants Program is not just about funding but about fostering genuine community partnerships. We repeatedly heard words like ‘supportive,’ ‘encouraging,’ ‘invaluable,’ and ‘community,’ emphasising that Shire staff are dedicated to making the application process accessible and empowering local community groups to thrive. This collaborative approach ensures that funding truly benefits everyone and strengthens the fabric of the community.

A Minor Capital Works Grant enabled the Rokeby Hall and Reserve Committee, led by Kate (Committee President), to refurbish the hall. The long-overdue painting project, not undertaken in nearly 25 years, has significantly improved the appearance, making it a more inviting and appealing space for the community groups that regularly use it. Whilst we were filming, Probus groups from throughout Baw Baw Shire were enjoying a social day, making great use of this beautiful facility.

Nicole, Secretary and Treasurer of Neerim-Neerim South Football and Netball Club, explained that a Minor Capital Works Grant facilitated the replacement of their ageing fence. This vital improvement, made possible by the generous support of the Baw Baw Shire Council as the primary funder, has significantly enhanced safety and aesthetics for both players and spectators. This surely has created a more welcoming and enjoyable environment for the entire Club.

The Baw Baw Arts Alliance received funding for their ‘Art in the Street’ program, provided local artists with canvases, T-shirts, and crucial support. Jeff, from the Alliance, outlined how this initiative not only promotes artistic expression but also gives artists the opportunity for their works of art to be exhibited, admired and purchased. Certainly, the cultural vibrancy of the community is ultimately enhanced by Art in the Street.

The Warragul Municipal Band has benefited from three grants to date; the latest to fund their project, ‘Satellite Music Education programs- feasibility and equipment’. Treasurer, Sarah, spoke about their innovative Satellite Music Education program, which aims to bring music education to all corners of the Baw Baw Shire, fostering a love of music in people across our region.

The Ellinbank Badminton Club successfully purchased 100 dozen shuttles, thanks to their latest grant. Today, the well-equipped sporting facility attracts both junior and senior players, a far cry from the rundown shed that representative, Ken, described as the Club’s previous home before receiving funding from Baw Baw Shire grants.

Margaret explained that the Tetoora Road Community Centre first accessed the Grants Program in 2015-2016. This year, they received funding for their ‘Spruced Up for Spring’ project, which included the purchase of a  wheelbarrow, four lockable garage cabinets and two tear-drop display flags. These improvements will undoubtedly enhance the functionality of the Community Centre, a venue that hosts wonderful annual community events and is available for hire.

Our longtime friends, Dan and Laura, the dynamic duo behind The Hallora Marathon Event, have successfully leveraged past grants to enhance this renowned event that supports cancer research. Funding has been used to purchase participant medals and provide enhanced traffic management, reflecting their dedication to creating a more engaging, enjoyable, and safe experience for all involved.

Beyond celebrating successes, the annual Grants Reception is an invaluable opportunity for participants and Shire staff to connect. Our interviews revealed that hearing others’ stories sparked imaginations for new ideas and fostered a sense of community, proving that the reception is much more than just a ceremony.

We’ve always felt a strong sense of belonging within the Baw Baw Shire and are actively involved with a number of community groups. This video project provided a unique opportunity to engage with the community on a deeper level, further solidifying our love for this vibrant region.
